The Indian government is working on a plan to replace its voice-powered search engine with one powered by artificial intelligence.
Google India is in the process of revamping its service to improve efficiency and reduce the number of search queries it must handle per second.
The company is also working on other projects, including building a digital identity system and creating a new data-driven digital marketing platform, according to a report in The Economic Times.
However, the government has yet to set a target for the replacement of its voice search engine, which has been a mainstay of India’s mobile phone industry for years.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also the country’s prime minister, has called on India to build a smarter digital India to better compete with global rivals like China and India’s biggest rival, the US.
