Posted October 19, 2018 04:00:00The US Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced plans to develop the next generation of Biologis engine.
According to Reuters, the project is to be a “technology demonstration project” for a new “biological-engineering engine” for US-owned and operated submarines.
It is unclear exactly what the “engine” will be capable of, and how long it will be in development.
But Reuters says the development is being done in “a parallel development pathway” and that it would not have been possible without US participation.US military officials have not confirmed the new engine is being developed in partnership with the Russian Federation, but the news has triggered concerns about the possibility of a future conflict with Russia.
Last month, a report claimed the US is considering developing its own biologics technology, despite the fact it has not used Russian technology.
A spokesperson for the US military declined to comment.
Russia has already tested a biologis technology that uses a biological component and has been widely used by the Russian military in recent years, Reuters reported.
In 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country would be ready to develop a biometric technology in the near future.
