The Coyotes are set to face their biggest test yet this season in the first game of their six-game homestand.
The Coyotes will open the season on the road against the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Thursday night.
The Ducks have won three straight games and are just one point behind the Coyotes in the Pacific Division.
They are also just one game behind the league leaders for goals against and save percentage.
The game is expected to be a low-scoring affair.
The Oilers have won five straight and have a two-game lead in the Central Division.
Edmonton is also one point ahead of the Coyotes for the best record in the NHL.
The team will also be without forward Patrick Maroon and defenseman Nicklas Grossmann.
The NHL will open practice on Friday and Saturday.
There will be an optional skate on Sunday before the game.
